Stéphanie Ruth is an English–French curator and art historian working internationally. Her exhibitions connect modern and contemporary art through an interest in how art is sensed, felt and lived with.
She treats curating as a form of authorship, developing exhibitions as spatial narratives built from artworks, objects and sensory experience. Her approach draws on phenomenology, affect theory and feminist thought, fields that consider how perception, sensation and subjectivity shape experience. Stéphanie sees the exhibition as a living environment and her aim is to re-sensualise the experience of viewing art.
In 2022 she founded PARLOUR, a nomadic platform for exhibitions staged in private homes and architecturally distinctive settings. Each project begins with its environment, using the particularities of domestic or lived space to rethink how art occupies, transforms and animates interiors.
PARLOUR exhibitions often take the form of total environments where art, design, sound and atmosphere come together. Collaboration with artists, designers, and makers lies at the centre of her work. She is interested in how bodies respond to space, how rhythm, texture and proximity can turn looking into a physical act.
Alongside her exhibitions, Stéphanie advises collectors on building collections and consults on the placement of artworks within lived spaces.
She holds a master’s degree in the history of art from the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. Her dissertation, ‘Performing Utopias: The Activation of Space and the Spatialisation of Man in Oskar Schlemmer’s Theatre’ (2016, distinction), examined the Bauhaus stage as a site of human transformation.
Her work reflects two decades of sustained engagement with modern and contemporary art and design, through collecting, writing and curating.

Elle conçoit le commissariat comme un acte d’auteur, développant des projets où œuvres, objets et espaces dialoguent pour éveiller les sens et la présence. Sa démarche s’appuie sur la phénoménologie, la théorie de l’affect et la pensée féministe, qui envisagent la perception et la sensibilité comme des formes de connaissance.
En 2022, elle fonde PARLOUR, une plateforme itinérante présentant des expositions dans des maisons privées et des lieux architecturaux singuliers. Chaque projet se construit à partir de son environnement, explorant la manière dont l’art transforme et anime l’espace domestique.
Les expositions de PARLOUR se déploient souvent comme des environnements totaux où art, design, son et atmosphère se répondent. La collaboration avec artistes, designers et artisans est au cœur de sa pratique, tout comme l’attention portée au rythme, à la texture et à la proximité.
En parallèle, Stéphanie conseille des collectionneurs sur l’acquisition et l’intégration d’œuvres dans leurs espaces de vie.
Diplômée du Courtauld Institute of Art à Londres, elle a soutenu un mémoire intitulé Performing Utopias: The Activation of Space and the Spatialisation of Man in Oskar Schlemmer’s Theatre (2016, mention d’excellence), consacré à la scène du Bauhaus comme lieu de mouvement et de transformation.
