Stéphanie Ruth is an English–French independent curator, raised in London and New York City, and now based in Frankfurt am Main.
She works across modern and contemporary art, treating each exhibition as a living environment that brings attention back to the senses in the act of looking. Rooted in the phenomenology of perception, Stéphanie’s curatorial practice examines how materials, objects, and spaces affect the body. It presents art as lived experience — tactile, relational, and charged with memory — and builds thoughtful encounters between artists, artworks and audiences.
In 2022 she founded PARLOUR, a nomadic platform that stages exhibitions in private homes, intimate settings and architecturally distinctive sites. PARLOUR exhibitions often function as total environments in which art, design, sound and atmosphere operate as a whole.
She has been elected co-chair of the Friends of Städelschule and Portikus e.V., where she contributes to supporting one of Europe’s leading art schools and its exhibition programme.
Across both commissioned projects and exhibitions developed for PARLOUR, Stéphanie’s practice centres on embodied experience and how bodies respond to environment. Her exhibitions form part of a broader, multidisciplinary inquiry into more contemplative, sensory ways of experiencing art and interacting with our surroundings.
Alongside exhibitions, Stéphanie advises collectors on building collections and consults on the placement of artworks within lived spaces.

Stéphanie holds a master’s degree in the history of art from the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. Her dissertation, ‘Performing Utopias: The Activation of Space and the Spatialisation of Man in Oskar Schlemmer’s Theatre’ (2016, distinction), examined the Bauhaus stage as a site of human transformation, focusing on costume, space and the relationship between bodies and architecture.
Her work reflects two decades of sustained engagement with modern and contemporary art and design, through curating, advising, writing and collecting.

Stéphanie s’intéresse à la manière dont les corps réagissent à l’espace, et à la façon dont rythme, texture et proximité peuvent rendre le regard physique.
En parallèle, elle conseille des collectionneurs dans la constitution de leurs ensembles et dans l’intégration des œuvres au sein d’espaces habités.
Diplômée du Courtauld Institute of Art à Londres, elle est l’autrice d’un mémoire intitulé Performing Utopias: The Activation of Space and the Spatialisation of Man in Oskar Schlemmer’s Theatre (2016, mention d’excellence), consacré à la scène du Bauhaus envisagée comme lieu de mouvement, de costume et de transformation corporelle.
